The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has reached out to the winner of the just concluded reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, Laycon, informing him of his tax payment in 2021.
The LIRS took to their official Twitter account to congratulate Laycon and remind him about paying his tax.
It tweeted: “Congratulations @itsLaycon Winner @BBNaija Lockdown edition. More wins!! We look forward to seeing you in Y2021 as you #payyourtax.”
The LIRS message, however, generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians, who were quick to express their displeasure.
@Jachimma: “Lagos state government is so shameless. Already going after Laycon’s money as if they’ll use the tax for anything beneficial to the citizens. Poor road network, power supply, infrastructure & insecurity. Foolish goats.”
@akanbi2k: “Can you prove that Laycon worked for the 85m? It’s a cash gift for participating in a show BBN is not his occupation. If the 85m cannot be classified as an income, then it is not taxable! You tax income, not gifts.”
@medlyne_reuben: “LIRS don put eyes for Laycon money. Ffs.”
