The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, may be baptized with legal fireworks by over 3,000 civil servants that were recently recruited by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
The aggrieved workers, under the aegis of the Congress of Newly Employed Civil Servant, Delta State Chapter, urged Okowa to reinstate them or risk being dragged to court within 72 hours.
They described the action of the Governor as “unjust”, even as they rejected the directive of Okowa to the Head of Service to cancel the recruitment conducted by his predecessor.
Governor Okowa in a reference letter number: GHA16 Vol. VI/154, of June 1, 2015, placed all the employment carried out since January 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015 by Governor Uduaghan on hold.
The group, in the protest letter, co-signed by its Chairman, Comrade Regha Obus; Secretary, Agba Okemel and three others threatened to take further lawful step if the Okowa jettisoned their plea.
According to them, it was repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience to punish innocent newly employed civil servant unjustly for the sin of government officials and members of the state’s Civil Service Commission.
They said: “Your Excellency, is this the prosperity you promised us? We passionately appeal that you withdraw this Greek gift and be a father to us. We are Deltans, who passionately followed your campaign manifesto, tagged prosperity for all Deltans.
“We followed you, we campaigned for you. We voted for you. We defended our votes and ensured they counted. We celebrated you and rejoice with you on your inauguration. We believed the righteous man has been enthroned, but most ridiculously, your circular which is retroactive is poverty for all Deltans.”
They called on Okowa to look into the report of the committee set up by his predecessor, make same public for the good of Deltans and prosecute the culprit of the jobs scam.
