The Accord Party and Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State have called on their respective governorship candidates – Sam Akpan and Senator Helen Esuene – to concede defeat to Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The parties also urged them to congratulate Emmanuel, who is the governor-elect.
This was contained in congratulatory messages to Emmanuel made available to newsmen in Uyo.
Akaninyene Udoka, the state Chairman of Accord Party; the Treasurer, Happiness Stephen; Organising Secretary, Utibe Uko; alongside Chapter Chairmen and Ex Officio members, signed the message.
Ekong Charleson, the state Chairman of Labour Party; Deputy Chairman, James Ekere; Vice Chairman, Uduak Jimmy; Youth Leader, Sunday Akpan; and Chapter Chairmen also endorsed the statement for their party.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the two political parties participated in the last governorship election won by Emmanuel.
The parties also advised stakeholders to avoid unnecessary litigations that would distract the governor-elect from governance and lead to further waste of state’s resources.
The Accord Party officials said: “As active participants in the just-concluded governorship elections, we are in a good position to know that the elections in Akwa Ibom State were conducted in the best of manners by INEC.
“This is so from accreditation to voting, except in few negligible places.
“By our assessment, the conduct of that election was a watershed in our entire political history, in terms of planning and execution for which we congratulate INEC.”
The Labour Party said: “Reports collated from the different agents concurred that the governorship election in the state was fairly and creditably conducted, except in few units.”
