The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the FADAMA III Additional Finance Project of the World Bank in the state.
Obiano stated this on Friday in Awka while receiving the Fadama team, led by Dr. Adetunji Oredipe,the World Bank Task Team Leader in his Office.
He said that it was critical to support FADAMA for its interventions and assistance to farmers in Anambra State.
The Governor assured the delegation of good governance and transparency in funds disbursements and projects implementation.
He said: “I want to assure you that whatever aid we get, we will use the grants for infrastructure, roads construction, storage facilities for rural farmers to boost productivity.
“We bought 100 tractors to help our farmers, including Fadama users, for land clearing, which is most difficulty in farming system.”
Obiano added that the state has 24 companies that were generating $4.3 billion investment and nine of them were agro-based companies.
He said the state would launch the rainy season farming project next week, for which N250 million was budgeted for good seedlings among others.
Oredipe commended the Obiano administration for its support towards the project in the state.
Oredipe said the team’s visit to the state was part of their routine programme which comes up twice in a year.
He said: “We want to work with your state to actualise the project and commend your land clearing policy.
“The establishment of a control centre to communicate new farming ideas to farmers is an amazing one that has never happened in any state.
“We urge other governors to key into this development.”
Dr. Ben Herbert, who spoke on behalf of Tayo Adewumi, the National Project Coordinator, thanked the governor and his team for their continued support towards FADAMA project, while advising them to do more.
Anambra State is one of the core states in FADAMA III AF.
