The National Association of Patent Medicine Dealers in Gombe State said on Monday it has recovered substandard, expired and fake drugs worth N1.5 million from its members.
The Chairman of the association in the state, Malam Salisu Abdulaziz, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe that the products were recovered in the last quarter of 2014.
Abdulaziz said the seizure was carried out by the tax force set up by the association.
He said the materials would soon be handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control for destruction.
Abdulaziz said members of the association had been sensitised on the need to willingly hand over substandard drugs to the association’s tax force.
He said there was improvement in their members’ compliance to the campaign when compared to first, second and third quarters of 2014.
He said: “The issue of substandard, fake and expired drugs has drastically reduced in the Gombe State.
“In the first, second and third quarters, our tax force seized drugs from members worth N3 million to N4 million.”
The chairman called on members of the association to always sell standard approved drugs to members of the public and urged the public to always patronise approved medicine stores.
