The Senate on Wednesday gave its committee on Foreign Affairs two weeks to screen all the former Service Chiefs nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari as non-career ambassadors.
The Senate gave the ultimatum on Wednesday at its plenary.
Those to be screened are former Chief of Defence Staff, retired General Abayomi Olonisakin; and former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.
Others expected to be screened by the Committee as non-career Ambassadors are former chief of Naval Staff, Vice Marshal Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd); former Chief of the Air Staff, retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; and Air Vice Marshal Muhmmad Usman (retd).
After the nomination was announced on the floor, the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, gave the Committee two weeks to screen the nominees and submit the report in two weeks.
Also, the Senate referred the screening of Collins Chukwu for the appointment as Commissioner of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, chaired by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
