Niger urged to relocate orphans to permanent site from dilapidated home

Disturbed by the dilapidated structures at the state-owned foster home, a call has been made to the Niger State Government to as a matter of urgency relocate the children to the permanent site in Minna so as to ameliorate the lives of the orphans.
Making this appeal on Sunday when he donated items as part of activities to mark his birthday at the state-owned Orphanage Home in Minna, our State Correspondent, Dan Atori, lamented the state of the home, which lacks the basic facilities needed in life.
According to Atori: “This is my third time in this home.
“It is really appalling to see this home deteriorate to this extent.
“No fence, no basic amenities.
“I want the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello-led government to shelve every form of bureaucracy and make these children live in a conducive home.
“The new home built by the state government is so beautiful.
“I do not know why they are delaying the relocation process.
“Or was it built for another purpose?
“The relocation would help in no small measure towards giving the children a sense of belonging and reducing their sufferings.”
Speaking also, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Jibrin Ndace, while commending the celebrant for extending love to the children, assured him that the children will be well taken care of by the government.
Accordingly, Ndace said: “Mr. Governor is more concerned about the welfare of all Nigerlites, especially these little ones.
“I can tell you that, soonest, they will be relocated to their permanent site.”
While responding to the gesture on behalf of the home, Mallam Sadiq Hussaini said the dilapidated foster home has 33 children with the youngest being four months old.
Hussaini further called on all well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture of Atori, which has become an annual rite, adding that the home has been without proper fencing for proper security.
It should be recalled that the Niger State Government in 2013 ordered the construction of a befitting foster home, which has since been completed.
Items donated by Atori include tubers of yam, noodles, beverages, slippers, pampers, biscuits, candies, clothes, detergents, bar soaps, toothbrushes, toilet roll and various gifts.
