The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said it had seized Indian hemp and some other drugs worth N2.5 million in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Sunday Azinge, the Zonal Commander of the agency in Zaria, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday.
Azinge said the agency had also arrested 17 suspects, including a 70-year-old man, in connection with the crime.
He said the intercepted drugs included 96 bags of cannabis valued at N25,000 each and 67 compressed wraps valued at N7,000 each.
He said the seizure and arrest were made by the agency’s drug task force.
He said: “This is a task force established by the Kaduna Stare Government.
“It comprises the military, para-military and the Police.
“We all work together to achieve one goal: drug-free society.
“We started operation in October and we have recorded a lot of successes.
“As you can see, almost one tone of cannabis sativa has been seized.”
According to Azinga, if the intercepted drugs are allowed to go into circulation, they could cause a lot of havoc in the society.
