LG spends N6.2m on students’ registration fees in Sokoto.

The Goronyo Local Government in Sokoto State on Thursday said it spent N6.2 million on the registration fees of its students studying in various tertiary institutions in the state.
The Council Chairman, Alhaji Faruk ‘Yar-Rimawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that out of the amount N1.98 million was spent on fees of 100 students at the state polytechnic, Sokoto.
“Similarly, N1.4 million was expended on tuition fees of 57 students from the council studying at the Sultan Abdulrahman School of Health Technology, Gwadabawa.
“We have also spent N600, 000 on the payment of the registration fees of NCE 1 and NCE 2 students at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
“The council has also spent N2.45 million in the payment of registration of 56 indigenes of the area at the Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, Sokoto for 2013 academic session.
“In the same vein, the local government has spent N300,000 as fees of its indigenes studying at the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Sokoto,” ‘Yar-Rimawa said.
He further said that his administration printed 20,000 exercise books, at the cost of N1.5 million, which were distributed to all the primary schools in the area.
‘Yar-Rimawa said the council had repaired the grounded bus of the Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu Science Secondary school, Goronyo with N750,000, while a generating set worth N150, 000 was donated to the school.
According to him, 20 per cent of the students being assisted by the local government to study in the tertiary institutions are women as part of the council’s efforts to encourage girl-child education.
