Former Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has said that he foresees problems ahead of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Stating reasons for his pessimistic disposition, Tsav said their there were too many corrupt ex-governors hanging around Buhari, wondering if Buhari would deal with decisively or handle them with kid gloves as president Goodluck Jonathan did.
He said that he sympathized with Buhari, especially waiting challenges like the backlog of unpaid salaries of civil servants, shabby economy, corruption and security challenges.
He said: “Buhari has an intimidating reputation of strong character and incorruptibility. He has become an institution. We believe that Nigerian electorates voted Buhari and not APC. We believe that if the APC fielded another candidate, other than Buhari, the party would have lost, for this reason, it is expected that the APC big wigs will cooperate with Buhari to bring about the change Nigerians yearns for. The question is, is this achievable?”
According to Tsav, majority of people who surrounded the president elect are ex-governors, and most of them are corrupt and have pending corrupt cases in court and with law enforcement agencies.
Tsav further queried: “What will the president elect do to these people? Is he going to pardon them just like president Goodluck Jonathan did and dents his image or will he let justice take it full course and fall out of this big wigs? Better still, will he draw a line on these cases? On the part of the ex-governors, will they turn a new leaf by declaring their ill- gotten wealth and forfeit their loot to the government? I foresee problem ahead of Buhari’s administration.”
The ex-policeman said that another heart shaking issue for the incoming administration was the proliferation of arms and ammunition in the country. He said that AK47 riffles were everywhere in the country, just like toothpick sticks on the dining table in homes and restaurant in the country.
“To worsen the whole issue, the outgoing FG, under Jonathan has just awarded contract for guarding pipelines to some violent organisations, OPC and the Niger Delta militants. What is the work of the Navy, NIMASA and other security agencies? All these militant are just being armed to cause more security problems in the country. This secret contracts need to be reviewed in the interest of the security of this county,” said Tsav.
