Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, Prof. Dakum Shown, has expressed fears that the current disagreement in the party in the state regarding the zoning arrangement for the 2015 governorship election may adversary affect the chances of the party during the forthcoming elections.
Shown was not happy over what he called the unilateral decision of the state Governor, Jonah Jang, to impose his cousin, Senator GNS Pwajok, as his successor.
Pwajok is from the same zone as Jang.
And the move is against the wish of party elders in the state.
Shown said the elders in the state under the aegis of Justice and Equity Forum in Plateau State, comprising of the ruling PDP elders, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to be cautious in dealing with Jang on the issue.
He said the elders in the state are not happy with the governor’s unilateral decision.
He said such a move was not supported by the people of the state.
According to him, the national headquarters of the party is now left with the option of choosing Plateau State or Jang.
Shown said: “We are the founding fathers of PDP and we know that the constitution of the party allows for such.
“When Governor Jang was elected in 2007, it was based on the agreement reached by all the three zones to allow him the chance, but today he is saying no to the arrangement, today he is singing a different song.”
