The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed a retired teacher, Olubunmi Olayinka, and three former legislators – Bisi Kolawole, Lanre Ogunsuyi and Kehinde Odebunmi – as commissioners.
Others confirmed were the current Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Taelolu Otitoju, as well as Samuel Ayodeji, Kolapo Kolade, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo, Olugbenga Olajide and Victor Egunjobi.
Names of the nominees were presented by Governor Ayo Fayose and cleared by the 26-member PDP House at Tuesday’s plenary held in Ado-Ekiti and presided over by the Speaker, Kola Oluwawole.
The Leader of Business of the House, Ekundayo Akinleye (Ijero), who moved the motion for screening and confirmation of the nominees, reminded them to comply with the Code of Conduct as regards declaration of their assets.
The presentation of the names to the Assembly was in pursuance to Section 192(2) of the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Some of the nominees expressed happiness for the privilege to serve their state, saying they would not disappoint the people.
One of the confirmed commissioners, Dr. Olurotimi Ojo, promised to tackle health issues in the state with the technique he termed: “Preventive Health Care.”
Ojo was responding to a question posed to him by one of the lawmakers, Animasaun Adesina (Ekiti West 11).
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the confirmation, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Gboyega Aribisagan, said the committee had earlier screened the nominees.
Aribisagan said: “For fairness, justice and equity, none of the 10 nominees was screened in absentia.
“All of them were physically present for the screening.”
