The estranged former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has been told to make do his threat to fight back his removal from office.
The lawmakers of the state, The Eagle Online gathered, have been mobilized to recover all official vehicles attached to the former Speaker and his aides.
The aides, on hearing the directive, were said to have gone into hiding with their “loots”.
Ochei was compelled to resign last month after an impeachment notice was served on him by more than two-third of his colleagues in the House.
Since his removal, he was alienated by his colleagues, including those dinning and winning with his while he was in charge of the House.
The ex-speaker has kept mum and dissociated himself from all public functions, even as he has soft-pedalled on his 2015 ambition, a tactics, regarded in Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s camp as “a calculated attempt to fight back.”
The vehicles and other personal effects the ex-Speaker distributed to his aides and himself were allegedly purchased from the House budget.
The ex-Speaker was also said to have purchased so many vehicles when he held sway, which he unilaterally distributed among his aides, including his cooks, cleaners and gardeners.
But being a multi-billionaire, people thought he was using his personal money, a source said.
The new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, has promised to be fair to all when he met with the staff of the House recently, assuring them that “all outstanding staff claims”, which his predecessor refused to pay, will soon be cleared.
Onwusanya vowed to recover any vehicle officially purchased with House funds and given to aides, including those not qualified for such.
In view of the manner the former speaker was removed, an aggrieved Ochei has allegedly threatened to fight back during next year’s governorship election in the state.
Watchers of the unfolding events believe that Ochei and Uduaghan are set for a showdown as the former speaker is reported to still be interested in succeeding the incumbent governor.
