Three men were remanded on Tuesday at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates‘ Court over an alleged armed robbery.
The trio are Muslim Saheed, Kazeem Ganiyu, and Olaleye Olawale.
The Magistrate, Mary Ayodele, ordered that the defendants be kept behind bars due to the magnitude of the offence alleged.
The police prosecutor, ASP Idoko John, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on October 24, at about 7:00 pm at Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo’s farm and residence, Iwo.
John said the defendants conspired by arming themselves with dangerous weapons to rob Senator Oriolowo of his valuables, including six plasma television sets, mattresses, kitchen utensils, agro-allied materials and chemicals valued at N2 million, dresses, cable network decoders, deep freezer, milk processing machine, tilling machine and many other items.
They were later arrested and brought to the court to face trial.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act Cap R|| Vol.14 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his response, the defense counsel, I. Tewogbade, objected to the charges and claimed that the police have already filed a similar case of stealing and theft against his clients in the court.
The magistrate, however, ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody in Ilesa and adjourned the case till November 4 for hearing.
