The Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti, has ordered the remand of a man, Olorunfemi Adebowale, 25 at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti, for raping a 13-year-old minor.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Saka Afunsho, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the correctional centre, pending the issuance of the Director of Public Prosecution’s opinion.
He adjourned the case until October 17 for mention.
The Police prosecutor, Insp. Olumide Bamigbade, had told the court that defendant committed the offence on or about May 16 in Ikole Ekiti Magistrate District.
Bamigbade said that the defendant, a Shepherd (Olusho) at the Celestial Church of Christ in Ikole Ekiti area, lured the victim into sexual relationship and had intercourse severally with her.
The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under Section 31(2) of the Child Rights Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to remand the defendant to enable the police to conclude their investigation and forward the duplicate case file to the director of public prosecution’s office for legal advice.
