Bomb scare: Minna residents scamper for safety

Minna, the Niger State capital, was on Monday thrown into tension as civil servants and visitors to the state’s secretariat opposite the state’s House of Assembly Complex ran for the safety of the lives following the discovery of an object suspected to be Improvised Explosive Device.
According to findings by our Correspondent, the object, a cane container filled with dirty materials, was said to have been placed upside down on the way leading to the block occupied by the state’s Head of Service among other top government offices.
It was gathered that on sighting the object, people were scared as they took to their heels shouting: Bomb! Bomb!! Bomb!!!.
Officers and men of the Niger State Police Command were immediately contacted and promptly raced to the scene.
It was further gathered that an anti-bomb police squad led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olokor, was dispatched to the scene and he watched the squad defuse the object, only to discover that it was not a bomb but a container filled with dirts.
The police boss later held the object up and threw away the contents after which he assured the onlookers that the object was not a bomb as earlier rumoured.
Olokor however advised workers and civil servants to go about their lawful duties without any fear or intimidation, while he described the rumour as a mere hoax.
