The Nigeria Air Force says it will use its Bauchi Special Operations Base in an effort to deal with the current security challenges in the country.
The Chief of Administration, Abuja, AVM Ibrahim Yahaya, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Bauchi on Monday.
Yahaya said: “When you look at the current security challenges facing the country, this is a special operations command and we will use it seriously to address some of the security challenges in the country.
“The command was established in 2016.
“We operate the envelope system in terms of budgeting, so it will take some years for us to actualise our dreams of having a fully-fledged base.
“But be that as it may, there is no quarter that we do not something in Bauchi.”
Yahaya said that the force had also drawn up motivational programmes for the personnel in an effort to boost their morale in the fight against insurgency.
He said: “We have so many motivational schemes like the Post-Service Housing Scheme in which we provide houses for solders – officers and men – at affordable prices.
“We have our schools; Air Force schools are one of the best in this country; very affordable and heavily subsidized for our personnel.
“Our medical facilities like the hospital here in Bauchi is comparable to any other in terms of equipping and manning.’’
He said that the air force had embarked on vigorous training of its personnel to enable them to perform optimally and in furtherance of the human capacity development agenda of the administration.
Yahaya said: “I expect them to do their best, to put in their best because to whom much is given, much is expected.
“Apart from that, we have embarked on vigorous training of our personnel because you cannot give what you do not have.
“So human capacity development is a priority of this administration.
“The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and President of Nigeria Muhammad Buhari is expected in Bauchi this week to commission some projects.”
