The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Adamawa State Chapter has demanded justice for a female journalist working with the Adamawa State Broadcasting Commission, Yola, Nafeesah Vandi, who was assaulted by her husband, Ibrahim Aliyu.
The union made the demand in a statement signed by its Chairman, Donald Dedan, and Secretary, Fidelis Jocktan.
Vandi was allegedly assaulted by Aliyu, a former worker with the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
The NUJ said: “Though the police have already swung into action in investigating and arresting the perpetrator of the domestic violence, the NUJ calls for a more speedy action into the investigation and prosecution of Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu, in accordance with the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The union further calls on national and international organisations like FIDA, UNFPA, UNICEF as well as civil society organisations that are propagating a total halt on violence against women, to step into the matter for justice to prevail.”
