Legal fireworks on Monday commenced over the conduct of the April 11 governorship election in Delta State.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor, has formally dragged the Governor-elect of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party, to the tribunal.
Joined in the suit was the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Alleging fraud, Emerhor in his petition called for the cancellation of April 11 governorship election in the state, even as he sought an order for the conduct of rerun governorship election.
He accused INEC of colluding with the PDP by preventing the Card Readers from being used in many areas during the election.
He also alleged that results were fabricated and allocated, thereby violating the electoral laws and INEC guidelines.
“Accredited voters for results announced were more than actual card reader records,” Emerhor in the petition alleged, adding: “Violence and ballot box snatching marred the election.”
He urged the tribunal to declare the elections “null and void”, even as he expressed the hope that the tribunal would do the needful “as the irregularities recorded in the elections were unimaginable”.
