Supporters Club says Tinubu’s death great loss

Sam Ikpea, National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, has described the sudden death of Deji Tinubu, a former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation as a painful loss.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Tinubu died on Thursday after a novelty match during a retreat for commissioners and special advisers to Governor Akinwumi Ambode at Epe, a district of Lagos State.
Ikpea said he was shocked when he got the sad news of Tinubu’s death, as he was hale and hearty and was never identified with any ailment before his sudden demise.
He said: “We have been in a very sober mood since yesterday because Tinubu is one of our own, and he was vibrant in sports activities, especially football all through his lifetime.
“Death just came in this January and snatched him without illness, I am still in deep shock because he was full of life and was easy going.’’
He said the NFSC would always remember Tinubu, who was the immediate past Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission.
Ikpea said: “He has left an indelible mark in the football federation and general development of sports in Lagos. We will always remember him for that because he carried everybody around him along.
“We are using this medium to extend our heartfelt condolence to the immediate family, especially the wife and children and all those that are related or worked with him.’’
The Chairman also prayed against such untimely death in the football sector, adding that it was barely two years that the body lost Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shaibu.
NAN reports that Tinubu occupied the position of Special Adviser on Sports and Chairman of the State’s Sports Commission from October 2015 to December 2017.
In December 2017 he was appointed as a special adviser to Governor Ambode on Commerce, Industry and Cooperative until his death.
