There were lots of intrigues and politicking in Tuesday’s federations elections as the incumbent President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, put everything he had in sports politics into use to win over the confidence and votes of his federation members when he tied 5-5 in the votes against challenger, Hon. Ibrahim Gusau, who forced a re-run.
Ogba, however, won the re-run by seven to three votes, which sparked off wide jubilation in the camp of the former Delta State Sports Commissioner.
Other results of the federations polls included the victory of Justice Danladi Sanchi, a Federal High Court of Abuja Judge, who emerged the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria.
Farouk Orbih emerged the Vice President of the BFN.
Lagos State Commissioner of Sports, Waheed Oshodi Enitan, emerged table tennis president while Edem Orok won the vice president’s position.
Onyeama Emeka also emerged as the new President of Cricket Federation of Nigeria while Abubakar Haruna won the Darts Federation election as the president.
Usman Nahuche emerged the Deaf Federation president while George Ashiru emerged the new Taekwondo Federation President.
Former Minister of Sports, Sani Ndanusa, retained his seat as the President of the Tennis Federation.
Others were Prince Timothy Nsirim, Judo President; Agu Ejidike, Karate; Daniel Igali, Wrestling Federation President; Yussuf Dauda, Handball Federation President; the President of Para-soccer Federation is Lawal Didi; Squash president is Adamu Ahmed Erena; Traditional Sports president is Abdullahi Mohammed Baba.
Engineer Abu Gumel again for the record time emerged the President of Volleyball Federation.
Former Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudum Nwuche, emerged as the President of the Weightlifting Federation, while Tijani Umar retained his position as the President of Basketball Federation.
Others are Chess Federation’s President, Olalekan Adeyemi and Gymnastics Federation President is Foluso Adefemi.
