Alhaji Abdulai Abukari, the Consul-General of Ghana High Commission in Lagos, on Saturday said that the Ghanaian government would continue to protect the rights of Nigerians in his country.
Abukari told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the government was doing its best in protecting the rights and freedom of Nigerians in Ghana.
He said: “On behalf of the Ghanaian Government, let me assure our Nigerian brothers and sisters of their safety and freedom in Ghana.
“Ghana and Nigeria might be separated geographically, but they have a growing affinity.
“We are inseparable.
“Nigerians should, therefore, know that they are welcome anytime to Ghana and that their freedom and safety is guaranteed.
“Let me say here that there is no deliberate harassment of Nigerians in Ghana and the government strongly upholds this.”
The envoy, however, stated that there were “isolated cases” where few Nigerians had problems with his country’s law enforcement agencies.
Abukari said that his government had always intervened promptly in resolving issues concerning Nigerians in Ghana and would continue to do so.
“The government of Ghana will not allow unacceptable treatment to be given to Nigerians in its country,” he said.
Abukari appealed to Nigerians and Ghanaians to be law abiding in their host countries as no government would tolerate any person or group of persons that violate its laws.
