The lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Babajide Omoworare, has cautioned reactionary elements in the National Assembly against distracting the executive arm of government from realizing its great agenda for Nigerians.
Senator Omoworare said this when he spoke with journalists at a function in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, over the weekend.
He said: “In the spirit of progressivism as a dutiful lawmaker, I am personally opposed to the unwarranted distraction and diversionary tactics as presently displayed between the legislature and executives, deployed by reactionary elements in the National Assembly.
“President Muhammadu Buhari needs 100 per cent concentration and support from all quarters to fight corruption to a halt, revive the sleeping economy, boost income generation through diversification from a mono-product economy to initiate sustainable programmes.
“As such, I boldly subscribe that the law of the land must take its course faithfully, no matter whose ox is gored.”
Omoworare, who assured Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress government will not betray the confidence reposed in it, added: “The expectations of an average Nigerian is to see economic buoyancy, reduction in the rate of youth unemployment, an end to the scourge of insecurity and militancy, improved electricity supply, massive infrastructural development across the length and breadth of our country.
“All these are what the present leadership is tackling headlong as contained in the 2016 budget, with great assurances that budget implementation and execution will be legendary and monumental, attaining a height of 75 per cent passmark by May 2017.”
While reacting to the recent reshuffling of the chairmanship of committee in the Senate, which saw him moved as Chairman from the Rules and Business Committee to the newly-created Legislative Compliance Committee, Omoworare said: “As the chairman of Rules and Business Committee, I premised my conduct on the amendment on the political timing, prevailing circumstance and unpatriotic attitude of a selected few to bring this government to its knees and draw us back retrogressively and if my sins are prejudiced on my allegiance to the prospectus of party supremacy or my inferred alliance to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, so be it.
“I dare say I remain unrepentant Tinubuist as my crave for selfless service to our people.
Omoworare, who is opposed to the plots by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, of which he is a member, to the summons extended to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to a public hearing where the Senate is challenging his effrontery to institute a criminal case against the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, said: “This session is an entire waste of our time.
“I am not bothered about the matter in court.
“The law should take its course.
“I don’t want to join issues on the amendment of the Rules of the Senate.
“I don’t know if the resolution of this hearing can authenticate anything.
“We should not be where we are.
“This is an entire waste of our time.
“That is the situation we have found ourselves.”
