The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Thursday personally paid his land charges tax to the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service at the headquarters of the Agency in Ilorin.
Speaking to newsmen after the event, Ahmed said his presence at the office of KWIRS to pay the charges underscores the importance government attaches to complying to issue of tax payment to ensure sustainable development of the State.
According to the governor, members of the public, corporate bodies and other land users are expected to follow suit as a practical demonstration of their commitment to the progress of the state, adding: “This remains the only way to enable government mobilise enough resources to improve infrastructure, human capital and economic developments of the state.”
Ahmed noted that inability to pay tax as a duty will lead to deficit in funding capacity which, according to him, may have negative impact on the economy.
The Governor, who was accompanied to the KWIRS by top government functionaries, stated that his administration granted tax waiver to Small and Medium Enterprises and whoever has outstanding payment for property tax in order to enable growth and encourage them pay up their taxes as at when due.
