Virginity test: Ogun sets up panel to probe suspended principal

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Ogun State has set up a five-man panel of enquiry to investigate the veracity of the allegation of virginity test levied against Mrs. Olufunke Oladeojobi, the principal of Ajuwon Senior High School, in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
Oladeojobi, a reverend, was said to have carried out a virginity test on some students two Mondays ago without the consent of their parents and guardians, an act that allegedly led to some of them bleeding from their private parts.
Speaking while inaugurating the panel, the state Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Segun Odubela, said the state government remained committed to the wellbeing  and interest of students and will not tolerate acts that could jeopardize their fundamental rights or compromise their future.
Odubela said: “The welfare of our students and their future is uppermost in our minds.
“We will never treat any issue that tends to jeopardize this with kids gloves.”
Odubela added that the panel was also set up to give Oladeojobi, who had earlier been suspended, a fair hearing.
He said the decision to set up the panel was made after the management of the ministry had quizzed her for over two hours on Thursday.
The committee, expected to turn in its report in a fortnight, was mandated to, among others, recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to be meted out to the principal, if found guilty.
