The Nigerian who was ranked 123 before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gained seven steps up the ladder to be rated 116 in the world, the third best African player in the world behind Egypt’s duo of Dina Meshref and Yousra Helmy who were ranked 37 and 101 respectively in the latest world rating.

Following the qualification of the trio of Olufunke Oshonaike, Olajide Omotayo and Offiong Edem for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the President of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Ishaku Tikon, has said the sport in its usual nature has justified its status among all sports in Nigeria.

Seye Ogunlewe and Enoch Adegoke, representing Nigeria in the 100 metres men’s race, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, representing Nigeria in Shot Put, Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo, representing Nigeria in the men’s table tennis team amongst others reinforced the undeniable truth that Nigeria and indeed Africa is overflowing with talents that refuse to be buried regardless of unfavourable conditions. They have again permanently etched Nigeria on the international sports terrain.
