Following the decision of the Supreme Court that the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, must face trial over alleged false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the Like Minds Senators have drawn a battle line.
They said what is happening now is not about Saraki but the Senate institution.
The group however vowed to defend the Senate, adding they will no longer fold their arms on the issue.
The Supreme Court had in a unanimous decision delivered on Friday ruled that the CCT has jurisdiction to try Saraki.
The group also asked Saraki to resign while he faces his corruption trial at the CCT.
But the spokesman of the opposition group, Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West), said: “Marafa’s ranting against Saraki will not fly in the Senate because the case at the CCT is not about Saraki; rather, it’s about the Senate.
“Marafa is a clown who does not know that what is happening is not against Saraki as an individual, it is against the Senate as an institution.
“We will defend the Senate and we will no longer fold our arms on the issue.
“We know that at the end of the day, we shall come out stronger.”
