The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers on Tuesday expressed concern over the spate of kidnapping and called for a more scientific approach in tackling the problem.
The union made the call in a statement signed in Lagos by its President, Igwe Achese.
It described as “worrisome” the continuous kidnapping of innocent Nigerians across the country and therefore urged security agencies to intensify efforts at tackling the menace.
The union listed the recent incidents to include of the kidnapping of the Regent of Akungba, a Kogi State High Court Judge, a Kogi State serving Commissioner and a News Agency of Nigeria Correspondent in Imo State.
It also listed the abduction of the Ijaw Youth Council President’s junior brother, Eradiri, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s two maternal cousins, a Catholic Priest in Ekiti State and a Living Faith Pastor in Calabar, Cross River State.
The union lamented that such ugly happenings had portrayed the nation in a bad light, with the potential of scaring away foreign investors.
