NIN, requirement for land allocation in FCT

Federal Capital Territory Administration has made National Identification Number mandatory requirement for land allocation within the Federal Capital Territory.
NIN is a set of numbers assigned to an individual upon successful enrollment for national identity card in the country.
The enrollment consists of recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the 10 fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature, which are all used to cross-check existing data in the National Identity Database.
The data is to confirm that there is no previous entry of same information.
The information is in a statement by Loveday Ogbonna, the Head of Corporate Communication, National Identity Management Commission on Friday in Abuja.
Ogbonna stated that the decision was made known by FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, when he paid courtesy visit to the Director General, NIMC, Aliyu Aziz.
He quoted the minister as saying “every land allocated should be matched to an individual through NIN in order to track and prevent multiple allocations and to ensure fairness and equity in the allocation process”.
The minister commended the commission for increase in enrollment figures and measures put in place to ensure safety of data of Nigerians and legal residents in the National Identity database.
e also lauded the commission “for ensuring credibility and integrity of data collected”.
Aziz also thanked the minister for steps taken so far to ensure the success of the National Identity Management System, and assured him of continued collaboration for the success of both organisations.
He recalled that the NIMC Act makes the NIN mandatory for every citizen and legal resident and is already being implemented by Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigeria Immigration Service, Central Bank of Nigeria and other government agencies as basic requirement for offering government services.
Meanwhile, NIMC had started registration of minors since January 2017, which it said would be restricted to children whose parents had NIN.
