The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been given a tall order to win the ongoing U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
A prominent member of the Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation, who also doubles as the Chairman, Media Committee of the Federation, High Chief Emeka Inyama, told The Eagle Online that the Federation has high expectations of the team and is confident the young lads will deliver as from Saturday when they take on the defending Champions, Mexico.
Inyama said: “We are confident that our boys can do it.
“With the results they put up during the qualifiers and the African Championship, followed up with the rigorous two weeks training session they had when they camped at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai, they are sure to do well.
“Inasmuch as we respect the defending champions, I don’t think Mexico can stop this boys because they are really fired up to win the competition.”
Inyama however stated that the Federation believes in the quality of the players chosen to represent the country in the world fiesta and the calibre of the Eaglets’ coaches led by Coach Manu Garba.
He also declared that the Eaglets enjoyed one of the best preparations for the competition.
He told The Eagle Online: “The Golden Eaglets team enjoyed one of the best preparations going into this competition.
“The NFF is using this medium to thank His Excellency, Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State for hosting the Eaglets all through their preparations while in Calabar.
“The team had a very good preparation in Calabar.
“The governor would be leading a strong delegation to United Arab Emirates tomorrow (Friday), all to encourage and support the team in their opening match against the defending champions, Mexico.
“With this strong support from the governor and Nigerians in the UAE, we in the NFF believe that the Eaglets will conquer and beat the defending champions, Mexico, on Saturday to send a strong signal to the rest nations that Nigeria is ready to conquer and start by brightening their chances of qualifying from the strong group.”
