The Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has said that his campaign will be issue-based and cautioned party faithful against violent.
Alao-Akala, a former governor of the state, made this known during the inauguration of a 30-man campaign committee for the 2015 general election held at the Labour Party Secretariat in Oke Ado, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
He said: “I am an advocate of discipline, orderliness and I adhere strictly by the rules of the game.
“We should endeavour to go about the campaign without rancour or bitterness.
“Let us show the example of good neighbourliness and teach the opposition how best to campaign in a democratic setting.
“We have listened to the voices of the downtrodden masses who are presently suffering the untold hardship under the present administration.
“Iam here to offer myself to serve my people again and revive the legacy, which provide enabling environment for commercial activities to thrive.
“Hence, it is a major task for this committee to champion issue-based campaign by sending our messages of hope and reality to all citizens of Oyo State.
“The onus therefore rests on all of us as members of the Labour Party and the campaign committee to take this message of hope and a brighter future to all and the nooks and cranny of the state.
“We should drum it into the ears of the masses that a government with human face is in the offing to execute people oriented projects that will improve their lots.”
The Director General of the Alao-Akala Campaign Organisation, Dr. Kola Balogun, a former Commissioner for Works and Commerce during Alao-Akala’s tenure as governor, will be assisted by other heads of various committees of the campaign organization.
Team Akala, a support group for the aspiration of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala to return as governor, has described the inauguration of the campaign commiittee as a bold step towards the realization of the set goal.
The Team Coordinator, Prince Niran Adeyoju, in a statement, said there is no doubting the fact that the campaign committee headed by Balogun will work assiduously to ensure victory “for our principal in the coming election”.
While seeking for the cooperation of the party faithful and loyalists of Alao-Akala, the group also tasked the comiittee to ensure harmonious working relationship with other interest groups that are “in support of the course we are fighting”.
