Lobbyists seeking appointment into political positions have besieged the country home of the Governor-elect of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.
The unwarranted pressure, The Eagle Online authoritatively gathered, has forced the Okowa to seek peace outside the country.
Hundreds of support groups that backed his governorship bid were not left out of the lobbying.
Besides, the elders of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, are anxiously waiting to have inputs in his government.
The Governor-elect’s kinsmen, who voted massively for him in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state, have tabled their demands, which include employment opportunities, before him.
In Asaba on Wednesday, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s current appointees were confirmed to be jostling and beseeching their political leaders and traditional rulers on how they would be relevant in the next dispensation.
But Okowa was said to have vowed to stick to his campaign promises.
One of his aides who pleaded anonymity confirmed that his principal had to travel out of the state to rest because of the pressure that mounted on him shortly after he won his election.
The aide said: “Yes, you know this is a pay back time.
“Everybody wants to see what they can get from the man (Okowa), especially political appointments.
“Since the man was declared the winner and given his Certificate of Return, pressure started mounting such that he has no time to rest.
“He has no other choice than to leave the state for now.”
The source hinted that some desperate politicians went as far as prevailing on some top PDP elders at the national level, including members of the party’s Board of Trustees, to get at his principal.
He said: “Senator Okowa definitely cannot empower everybody.
“His clear vision of a brighter Delta State does not give room for business as usual.
“So, it high time those who thought less of him know that there is going to be a paradigm shift from the error of the past.”
