The Lagos State University has a carrying capacity to admit 4,500 new students for the 2015/2016 academic session.
The Registrar of the University, Akinwunmi Lewis, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
Lewis said the facilities on ground at the institution could only cater for the 4,500 new intakes for the academic session.
He said: “We cannot admit beyond the facilities on ground in terms of the manpower, lecture rooms, laboratories and library among others.
“This is to ensure that the method of teaching is effective so that the rate of failure can be minimised to the barest minimum.”
Lewis said the university had so far admitted 4,000 candidates for the new academic session.
He however clarified that not all the candidates offered admission had accepted the offer as some of them had already secured admission elsewhere, while others had their personal reasons.
The registrar said matriculation for the newly admitted students would come up in the first week of March.
Lewis advised students and staff of the university to key into the re-branding mission of the university initiated by the present leadership.
He said: “Few people should not drag the name of the university in the mud always.
“We must all to do things rightly and effectively to promote the image of the institution.
“Anyone found guilty will be flushed out of the system.”
