Former President Matthew Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo’s unending personal and political hubris against Chief MKO Abiola has now been deflected by President Muhammadu Buhari in a classic, deafening and rebuffing masterstroke that will still reverberate well after the 2019 election. I have read all the chattering silliness of Jimi Disu, Dino Melaye, the Ndigbo and many enemies of Bashorun Abiola, and by extension, the Yoruba. The Ndigbo have come to tribalise the whole issue of Abiola’s posthumous and belated glory by importing and darkly suggesting that Prof. Humphrey Nwosu also deserved to be garlanded for his contribution to today’s stable democracy. I support his recognition but we should not tribalise this noble deed at all. The question is, how many Ndigbo voted for Buhari in 2015? How many are prepared to vote him again in 2019? We have to call a spade a spade. That’s food for thought.
The empty, rejectionist gasses coming from Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the Afeniferere chieftain, Jimi Disu, Dino Melaye, Justice Alpha Belgore, the Chairman of the National Honours Commission, and that vile, corrupt amalgamation of conniving villains called Peoples Democratic Party should be contemptuously snubbed. Dino’s comment that MKO Abiola is no longer a Nigerian and therefore has no right to our national honour is a vindication of what I always called this man: a deranged, demented and clownish toad.
It is inhuman for anybody who is enjoying today’s democracy to be reading shaming innuendoes to Buhari’s redemption of Abiola’s memory. Whether the reverse injustice against Abiola is done in desperation, illegal, unconstitutional, belated or is a suave way to woo the Yoruba, President Buhari has been able to price open the past in order to heal the present and look forward to a better future. The President has taken the case to the court of the people and they have welcomed it. Sovereignty, we have to remember, is vested in the people. So, the case of unconstitutionality or illegality of institutionalizing June 12 is closed forever. Buhari looked back and this is a virtue not common with our politicians. I have heard it said that government is a continuum and that leaders should be forward than backward looking. Wrong. We need to probe the past in order to either punish the past actors or honour them for their deeds while in public office.
Buhari’s recognition of Abiola’s democratic struggle against the enemies of the state is a well-targeted hand grenade specifically lobbed at for President Olusegun Obasanjo for maximum effect. This is a short, sharp and the best assassin’s way to deal with a hidden enemy and shut him up forever. This is political brinkmanship at its glorious best. At least, the progressive Yoruba are happy that, at last, justice delayed, has now been recalibrated, corrected and honoured. This is poetic justice in motion.
This is a shame on the Obasanjo’s evil mystique. It is a shame on his credentials as a Yoruba man. It is a shame on his eight years as president of Nigeria. What 16 years of PDP could not pull off was done in a matter of seconds. Obasanjo has always come to represent a strong and unrepentant enemy of Abiola. In all his past life as president of Nigeria, Obasanjo built a fortress against all protestations, appeals, pleadings and supplications to recognise June 12 and honour Abiola, a fellow tribesman. Sorry, some say his dad was Ibo.
Rather than reverse the saga, Obasanjo, the ugly recidivist, serial liar, Godless, traitor, Northern stooge, vengeful, unjust, jealous and unforgiving man played the God on Abiola and shut down all avenues to heal the festering wound of June 12 injustice. Obasanjo, who has never hidden his weakness for self-exaltation, would later morph as the number one enemy of the Yoruba race in Nigeria. He is the famous chief persecutor of the Yoruba people.
He thrashed all the noble and gallant achievements of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and polluted them all. He destroyed western education in order to put it at par with the Northern Nigeria, his paymasters. He killed Mama Fela. He sent gestapo forces to burn down Kalakuta Republic. He denied the Yoruba places of prominence in his administration. He wooed non Yoruba to his side and that political, economic and social decimation still continued to affect Yoruba’s political fortunes in the complex politics of Nigeria to this day.
The Obasanjo we all know will always launch a battle of self-rescue from any intimation of social and political ostracisation in Nigeria’s turbulent political destiny. Today the prospect of his ugly politics of do-or-die ending in blind alley is exhilarating for some of us who find his desire to micro manage every leader after him totally abhorrent, arrogant and dictatorial. Obasanjo, who is today championing democratic purity by bombing Buhari’s administration, was once the anti-democratic demagogue who pandered to devilish ambition and planned to quarantine Nigeria into the quagmire of a third time rule before the overture was shot down like a rogue scud missile.
On the June 12 recognition as our democracy day and the express presidential order to gazette the damn good news forthwith, President Buhari has demonstrated rare courage, leadership and political correctness that will now serve as a model for future leaders in Nigeria. We know that Obasanjo will never recognise June 12 over his dead body, but thank goodness, we have today recognised that historic injustice while Obasanjo’s body is still warm and alive! The ghost of Abiola has today come to haunt Obasanjo. So, Pa OBJ, what better time to do the right thing and go for the hemlock before high blood pressure takes its toll on you? Obasanjo should cut out the crap of persecution. He is crying wolf because of his vanishing relevance.
We have to commend Senator Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege for his audacious attempt to steal Bukola Sariki’s mace at the National Assembly. There have been so much disapproval and condemnation for his primordial daylight heist on Saraki’s shining symbol of power and authority. Omo-Agege, like millions of discerning and politically sophisticated Nigerians, has come to the ugly conclusion that the architecture of our democracy has been repeatedly desecrated by the evil machinations and scheming of a Saraki who hopes one day to become Nigeria’s president. That will not happen!!!
Saraki’s desire is to create a republic within the Senate where senators are conscripted to an oath of secrecy, silence and blind loyalty to his ambition. He pampers them with money and gifts while the unruly ones like Omo-Agege are summarily given the Saraki treatment – suspension. Yes, illegal suspension!!
Therefore to call his stupid bluff, arrogance and controlling spirit to order, Omo-Agege had to step on his toes and steal his mace in order to humiliate Saraki personally, and also rescue the Senate from the hands of charlatans, demagogues, errand boys and girls who have fallen asleep to Saraki’s evil spell.
That spell will however not work on the soul of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
Idris, who had been smacking from being called enemy of democracy and unfit for public office both within and without, had to wait for his pound of flesh. The Offa, Kwara State armed bank robbery offered him a hilarious chance to revenge and humiliate Saraki.
One of the Offa robbers allegedly named Saraki as a monstrous, hidden and shameless paymaster and arms supplier. We have to set the record straight. The so-called robbers are members of the outlawed political thugs called Youth Liberation Movement, aka Good Boys.
Of course, Saraki, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, has his thugs. Dino Melaye his own thugs. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has his own commandoes. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has his own vigilantes. Every big and cowardly politician in Nigeria has his own boisterous and hungry standing army who are looking for political opponents to devour. They will all deny having any thug in their payroll. Shameless liars!!!
Rattled to the core by the allegation of being involved in arming robbers, cowardly Saraki began to muster solidarity from his cowered constituency – National Assembly. He began to play God. He began to see himself as bigger than the law of the land. He began to accuse the Presidency of plot to smear and topple him. Suddenly, the political space began to take on a surreal stalemate of who dares wins. He played to the gallery and alleged political persecution. Ask Ali Ndume. Ask Omo-Agege. These are the real victims of political, self-justifying persecution authored by Bukola Saraki.
Before the nation knows it, Saraki had to muster the greatest collection of anti-Buhari antagonists in the National Assembly and merged them with the House of Reps in an evil collaborative push for a preemptive impeachment of President Buhari. The All Progressives Congress Judas unveiled a 12-point demand. Buhari was given a marching order to tackle insecurity, rejig lopsided war against corruption and respect lawmakers. President Bukola Saraki of the Republic of National Assembly threatened fire and brimstone and the readiness to invoke his constitutional power against Buhari if he fails to implement the demands. What impudence! What narcissistic rubbish!
Saraki’s political immaturity and ambition have blindsided his common sense for decorum and protocol. Together with his rebellious House of Rep troops, Saraki wanted to impeach President Buhari. Why? He felt humiliated that his lawless self was invited by the Police. He felt affronted that his clown, Dino Melaye, was given a rude shock that left his neck in a brown brace.
What kind of cavalier insolence is this? Why have we allowed Saraki to trivialize our National Assembly and bring it to daily ridicule? In fairness, Saraki is the real and unrepentant enemies of democracy. He sat on the National Budget for over 6 months. What bill, under his watch, has been passed for the amelioration of poverty of the masses in Nigeria?
Why would this devious chancer with unpalatable roguish history be allowed to set himself up as the Alpha and Omega and a lawless potentate who is above the laws of the land? The badly educated elites are now polarised. Who’s pursuing the rehabilitation of Nigeria from 16 years of PDP’s looting orthodoxy: Buhari or Saraki? Who, in all honesty, should be impeached- President Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or President Saraki of the Republic of National Assembly? We have to stop the Sarakinisation of our National Assembly and rescue it from the hands of real enemies of the people by all means necessary.
Saraki should run to answer to his funneling of arms and cash to his thugs without any delay. The blood of the 33 helpless victims are crying for justice.
