The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed October 20, 2012 for the Ondo State governorship election.
A statement by the Director of Public Affairs, INEC, Emmanuel Umenger, on Wednesday said said that the date was fixed after the end of the commission’s weekly meeting.
According to the statement, the notice of the election will be issued on July 16 while the collection of forms by political parties at the INEC headquarters will be on July 27.
Campaigns are expected to commence on July 12 and end on October 19.
The statement added that political parties sponsoring candidates for the election should submit the names of their agents to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ondo State, on October 13.
The governorship election promises to be a fierce one as a former Governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has vowed to unseat the incumbent, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for not defecting to the ACN from his party, the Labour Party.
