The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, on Monday expressed resolve to continue in the funding of the Minna Steel Stadium project until May 29 when he will hand over power.
Aliyu communicated this when he went on a facility tour on the stadium site at Rafin Yashi Ward, Minna.
He expressed satisfaction with the work done so far despite technical issues.
He said the level of work at the site had demonstrated his administration’s commitment to projects it had undertaken, which are of benefit to the people of the state.
aliyu said the state had already released over N600 million to the contractor handling the project as mobilization fee.
He said 10 per cent work is already executed on the site.
Earlier, the Commissioner in charge of the project, Alhaji Garba Tagwai, told the governor that the contractor has demonstrated commitment towards the completion of the project judging from the level of work done so far within a limited time frame.
Tagwai said the contractor has placed orders for vital equipment that would ensure the completion of the project and is requesting for N288 million to enable them to make the final payment for the clearance of the equipment.
Tagwai said the completion of the project would enable the state’s sports men and women to compete favourably during national and international competitions, especially in the field of football.
It should be noted that the Niger State government and a Chinese construction company had in 2014 signed a contract for the construction of a steel concentration stadium worth N2.5 billion.
The governor also visited the Nigerian Air Force Primary School in Minna, which the state government constructed and donated to the barrack.
He directed that the school should be fenced in the next 40 days.
