Yes, there is nothing as powerful and consistent as a divine covenant. This is because God himself is consistent and faithful. In fact, He said that He is constantly, eternally, faithfully, meticulously watching over His words to bring them to pass. That means, if you have a covenant with Him to protect you, then nothing in this life can prematurely terminate your life. If it is on prosperity, you will surely swim in it. If it is on spiritual power, all other powers (including Satan) and situations will definitely tremble before you. If it is on multiplication, He will surely visit you even when your time is past and womb dead as Sarah’s. God’s words can never fail!
Look at Jacob, the third generation successor of the covenant God had with Abraham. As He was with Abraham and Isaac, Jacob also inherited that divine faithfulness. From his mother’s womb God announced what he was going to be – blessed, strong and dominating! My God! Do you know that God has already ordained what you will be from your mother’s womb? That is exactly what He is saying in Jeremiah 1:5. Listen, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.”Great! This applies to you. He knew you even before you were planted in your mother womb. He appointed you, set you apart, ordained you to be great, prosperous, blessed and an instrument to His kingdom. So, if things are happening in the contrary just know that it is not the will of God. True!
Jacob did not begin well. He cheated on his brother and was running away for his dear life. On his way, frustrated, hunted by his past, afraid of his present and uncertain about what the future actually held for him, the covenant-keeping God of his grand-father and father appeared to him. Please let’s read that insightful and dramatic account directly from the scriptures, “Meanwhile, Jacob left Beersheba and traveled towards Haran. At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone for a pillow and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from earth to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down on it.
At the top of the stairway stood the LORD, and he said, ‘I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying belongs to you. I will give it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will cover the land from the east to west and from the north to south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I will be with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. I will someday bring you back to this land. I WILL BE WITH YOU CONSTANTLY UNTIL I HAVE FINISHED GIVING YOU EVERYTHING I HAVE PROMISED.” Gen 28:10-15. Praise God!
Sure, this is one of the most powerful portions of the entire bible. Go back and read it again. Meditate on it daily. I love it. In fact, it is one of those crazy portions of the scriptures. I love ‘staying’, brooding, meditating and burying myself in these verses, especially in the last part of it. God says that He will not leave you until He has finished all He said concerning you! Are you not excited?? And what again do you what to hear?? Clearly, divine covenant, grace, destiny were speaking here, because this guy at this point does not merit what was being poured on him. But God will always keep His own part of any agreement. He said that He will keep His covenants and love even to a thousand generations of those who obey Him. He will keep His covenant with you. Are you blessed by this message today? We will continue next week, God bless!
