Southampton vs Liverpool
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium
Kick off: 4pm
Premier League table toppers, Liverpool, will look to extend their lead with a win over Southampton at the St Mary’s.
Meanwhile, Southampton will be boosted by the presence of Dusan Tadic, who has been cleared to play despite breaking his nose against England in the World Cup qualifier last week.
The Saints have fallen off the pace in the last few games and are likely to be without Shane Long and Ryan Bertrand, who are both recovering from injuries.
The Saints have been particularly good at home this season and their 2-0 loss to Chelsea two matchdays ago is their first in 10 home games over the course of the last two seasons. This is the first time that Southampton will be faced against former player Sadio Mane, who transferred to Liverpool last summer and has been in brilliant form over the course of the season. They will be boosted by their recent performance against Manchester City and have to emulate the same work ethic if they are to take anything from the fixture.
Liverpool will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, currently one point ahead of Chelsea, as they look to end their 25-year wait without the title. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been the showstoppers of the Premier League this season and come into the game on the back of a 6-1 demolition of Watford at Anfield. They are unbeaten in their last nine games, picking up seven wins and two draws in the process.
The Reds will be without Adam Lallana, who picked up an injury in the international break but have received a boost in the form of Philippe Coutinho, who has returned from the break in prime shape. The Brazilian has scored thrice in his last four visits to the St Mary’s and will be looking to put in a marker again.
Southampton Possible XI: Forster; Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, McQueen; Clasie, Romeu, Davis; Tadic, Redmond, Austin.
Liverpool Possible XI: Karius; Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner; Lallana, Henderson, Can; Mane, Firmino, Coutinho.
