Delta 2015: Omo-Agege commences consultation for governorship ambition

The National Chairman of the Urhobo Political Congress, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, at the weekend commenced consultations for his ambition to participate in the 2015 Delta State governorship race, with a pledge to pilot the affairs of the state with a pan Delta mindset if given the mandate.
Omo-Agege, who spoke during his consultation meeting with the National Executive and the Elders Council of the UPC in Warri, reiterated his resolve to vie for the governorship position and maintained that he was offering himself for the service of all Deltans.
He promised to use his wealth of experience in government to further develop the state by building on the foundation laid by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration as well as build bridges of friendship across all three senatorial districts.
“I will run an inclusive government to create opportunities for all if given the chance to serve the people of Delta,” Omo-Agege declared.
While emphasizing that he has the wherewithal to prosecute the governorship ambition, the former Secretary to the State Government expressed optimism that he will emerge victorious at the polls.
He noted that aspirants from the three senatorial districts in the state contested in the gubernatorial elections that produced Chief James Ibori and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in 1999 and 2007 respectively, and maintained that the duo did not emerge on the basis of zoning.
Soliciting the support of the UPC, Omo-Agege urged members to reach out to their friends across Delta North and South Senatorial Districts.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Elders Council of the UPC, Chief G. N. O. Sefia, said there had never been a time that the governorship elections were held in the state and zoned to any senatorial district.
“It is not the practice and tradition of Delta State to zone the governorship to any senatorial district and this is not the time to start it,”, Sefia said, adding: “We in Delta Central have a stake in the race. All the three senatorial districts are in the race. We are also in the race.”
