The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday raised the alarm over plans by a cabal in the Presidency to use security agencies to arrest and detain former governors of elected on the party’s platform and some dissenting voices in the All Progressivea Congress.
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, had earlier during plenary alleged that there is an ongoing plot by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to plant huge sums of money and guns in his guest house in Enugu.
The spokesman of the Caucus, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, while briefing journalists on the development in Abuja, said credible intelligence at their disposal revealed that there are ongoing plans by a cabal in Presidency to humiliate dissenting voices in the country.
Abaribe, who addressed newsmen in company of Ekweremadu and the Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, condemned plans to implicate Ekweremadu by security agencies.
According to him, some persons in the Presidency are planning with security agencies to harass and intimidate Ekweremadu in order to put him in detention.
He said: “It is not limited to the Deputy Senate President alone, but all former governors in PDP, including dissenting voices in APC.
“We think this is a plan that all voices that condemn what is going on in the country are silenced.
“There is an assault on human rights and freedom of speech.
“This is a worrying trend in the country.
“Some people are using security agencies to harass the opposition.”
