Businessman begs Court to assist him recover debt from customer

A businessman, Hassan Usman, Friday pleaded with a Grade 1 Area Court Kubwa, Abuja to assist him recover N680, 000 from his debtor, Nasiru Dan-Sardauna.

Usman, had filed a civil summons in the court against the respondent, Dan-Sardauna, for him to pay the said sum he owes him.

The plaintiff told the court that the respondent approached him sometime in 2022, to supply four trucks of gravel totaling N880,000, with a promise to pay on delivery.

He said the respondent only paid N200,000 and refused to pay the balance of N680,000, adding that all efforts to recover the balance proved abortive.

The respondent’s counsel, Umar Ahmed-Baba, however, said the respondent admitted to owing N600,000 and not N680,000, adding that he had brought N150, 000 cash to the court as part payment.

Ahmed-Baba, however, applied for two months grace to enable his client raise the balance of N450,000.

 Following the respondent’s counsel’s application, the plaintiff’s counsel, Emmanuel Itodo, suggested that the terms of settlement should be in writing.

Ahmed-Baba, while responding, said the matter of the day was for mention, adding that the plaintiff’s counsel should wait until the matter was properly heard before making his application.

The judge Ibrahim Rufai said based on the applications made by both counsels; he adjourned the matter until July 13, for further hearing and report of settlement.

Rufai also ordered that the said N150,000 should be taken to the Court’s Registry.
