A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday affirmed a former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Justice Okon Abang declared Sheriff the PDP National Chairman based on a motion before him by Sheriff and other members of the National working Committee of the party, which had been pronounced dissolved at the National Convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The National Convention also appointed a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to head an Interim National Committee to lead the party.
But Justice Abang said on Thursday that since two court orders in Lagos and Abuja affirming Sheriff as National Chairman were still subsisting before another faction rushed to Port-Harcourt to get another order of the Court to back the convention that produced Makarfi, it could not stand.
