A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has expressed sadness over the demise of foremost novelist, Elechi Amadi, and a former Minister of Transport, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, noting that Nigeria lost two great heroes.
Akpabio, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, maintained that the death of the two revered individuals in the fields of literature and politics would leave vacuums difficult to fill.
He said: “In their own rights, Elechi Amadi and Ojo Maduekwe were two of a kind; heroes with achievements and credentials that tower above others and great individuals who lived and impacted humanity positively. Their immense wisdom and experience will be sorely missed in the task of rebuilding Nigeria, which the present crop of leaders embarked on.
“Who can easily forget Amadi’s contributions to the growth of literature in Africa? He will be missed by all. And for Maduekwe, who until his death was the Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, he led until the end. We will miss his immense experience in party leadership and his wisdom as an elder at a time we are charting a better course for the PDP. May God grant repose to their souls.”
