APC now controls House of Reps as 37 PDP members join its rank

The rank of the opposition All Progressives Congress swelled on Wednesday as 37 members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party formally decamped to the party.
The letter to that effect was read at plenary, with the lawmakers citing “division and factionalisation” within the ruling party as the main reason for their action.
Also, the new APC lawmakers said their action was in line with the provision of Section 68, Subsection 1G of the constitution.
However, the names of the new APC members were not available as at the time of filling this report.
With this development, the APC now controls the House of Representatives and the fear of any of the decampees loosing his/her seat is foreclosed.
The breakdown of the membership of the Lower Chamber along party line now shows that the APC has 172 members, PDP – 168, Labour Party – 10, All Progressives Grand Alliance – 5, Accord Party – 4 and the Democratic Peoples Party – 1.
