A group dedicated to the actualization of Igbo presidency in 2015, Njiko Igbo, and a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, have condemned Monday’s suicide bombing in Kano, which left no fewer than 22 persons dead and 65 injured.
The National/Diaspora Publicity Secretary of Njiko Igbo, Brady Nwosu, in a statement, said the suicide bombing was more devastating to the Igbo race as it occurred in an area more populated by people of South East origin.
Nwosu said: “The bomb blast in Kano, which killed many people was incredible.
“We believe most of them were the Igbos because the area the bomb exploded is largely occupied by Igbo traders and businessmen.
“Njiko Igbo condemns this unexpected and dastardly act.
“It shows the little value perpetrators place on human lives and hard earned property.
“Ndigbo played a big part in the development of the country.
“Why are we experiencing all these hazardous things in a country we love, helped to build and call our own?
“Njiko Igbo is appealing for calm and sympathizes with the families of the victims of the blast and also pleads with the government to look into this matter and bring justice to the people involved.
“We are also demanding for adequate security in all parts of the country as we cannot continue to live in fear in a country we call our own.”
Kalu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewumi, urged the government to fish out the perpetrators of the bombings in Kano and Maiduguri, Borno State.
Oyewumi said: “He (Kalu) said he was shocked by the attacks and called on Nigerians to engage the government in constructive criticism and dialogue rather than engaging in bombing and unjust attacks.
“He noted that it is when there is peace and harmony that the nation can prosper.
“Kalu charged security agencies to fish out the sponsors and perpetrators of this act to face the wrath of the law.
“He commiserated with the families of the bereaved and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
