Catholic bishop warns armed robbers to confess publicly, return stolen goods

The Bishop of Nsukka Catholic Diocese, Enugu State, Rev. Godfrey Onah, on Sunday warned those who robbed a priest in the area to confess publicly and return what they stole to avoid God’s wrath.
Onah spoke during a church service in Nsukka against the backdrop of Tuesday’s attack on the residence of the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Fr. Eugene Odo, at Bishop Court of St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral.
He said that the robbers, who were armed, carted away money, computers and other items after ransacking the house.
He said: “It is abominable for anybody to contemplate invading the residence of a clergyman who is dedicated to God.
“What happened has shown the level of atrocities and lack of respect for God in the present generation.”
Onah warned armed robbers to stop harassing priests in the diocese or face the wrath of God.
He added: “The church has been in the forefront in ensuring that jobless youths are empowered to be able to live decently.
“No reason whatsoever will be genuine for anyone to rob clergymen working in the house of God.”
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu, said that the robbery was reported and the police had commenced investigation.
When contacted, Amarizu said: “The matter has been reported to the police and we have started investigation aimed at tracking down the culprits of that heinous and abominable crime.”
