Homicide detectives attached to Orile Police Station, Lagos State have arrested a woman for strangling her four-year-old daughter to death and dumping her body into the canal at Orile area of Lagos State.
The woman, identified as Aminat Akanni, residing at 20, Masallashi Street, Alakara Bus Stop, Orile, was said to have strangled the little girl to death and dumped her corpse in the canal because she was angry with the girl’s father.
According to police spokesman in Lagos State, Kenneth Nwosu, the suspect had since confessed to the crime.
Akanni, who is second wife to Moshood Mubo, kidnapped the girl, Nosifat Mubo, and her seven-year-old brother, Lateef Mubo, on the road at Lagos Island when their father sent them to go and buy biscuits.
The suspect, who has her own kids, took both kids to her home at Orile and killed the younger one.
Unaware of what had befallen his kids, their father went to Adeniji Adele Police Station to declare the kids missing the next day.
Confirming the incident, Nwosu said: “On October 9, 2014 at about 2pm one Moshood Mubo of No. 305 Church Street, Lagos Island reported at Adeniji Adele Police Station that two of his children had been missing since that same date when they went to buy biscuit along the street.
“They are Lateef Mubo aged 7yrs and Nosifat Mubo aged 4yrs. On October 10, 2014 at about 10:30, one Aminat Akanni of No. 20, Masallashi Street Alakara Bus Stop Orile, Lagos was arrested with one of the missing children Lateef Mubo at CMS Bus Stop. The said Aminat Akanni is the second wife of the complainant.
“Investigation revealed that the corpse of the other child Nosifat Mubo was recovered at Orile Division in a sudden and unnatural death case. Suspect confessed to have drowned the child and dropped the corpse at Orile. The case has been transferred to Orile Division for synchronization and further action.”
