Three persons have been confirmed dead in a lone petrol tanker accident on the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway.
This was confirmed in a Situation Report of the Ogun State Police Command sighted by The Eagle Online on Saturday.
According to the report, the accident occurred on Saturday at about 9:30am at Imope village, Oru Ijebu in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident involved a Mark petrol tanker truck with 45,000 capacity long tank bearing registration number: T 623 LA X, driven by Salau Semiu.
The truck was carrying 45,000 litres of petrol loaded from Pinnacle Petrol Depot in Lagos State and was traveling from Ijebu Ode towards Ibadan, Oyo State.
Unfortunately, Semiu lost control of the truck, causing it to veer off the road and the tank containing petrol to fall, leading to a wildfire.
The driver and his conductor, Saheed (surname unknown), along with another female were inside the vehicle and tragically lost their lives in the fire.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the accident, with the scene being visited and photographs taken, while the bodies of Semiu and Saheed and the female passenger have been deposited at the state general hospital mortuary.
According to the report, emergency responders that joined the police at the accident scene included the Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State TRACE and Ogun State Fire Service.
Normal traffic was restored after the fire service put out the fire.
