Frontline contestant for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in the next governorship election in Bayelsa State, Timi Alaibe, has been cleared by the party’s screening committee for the party’s primary scheduled for September 3, 2019.
The Bayelsa PDP Preservation Group stated this in a statement on Sunday by its Coordinator, Ebiowei Ogulu
This was contained in a statement by the Timi Alaibe Campaign Organisation in reaction to a statement by Dickson’s media aide, Fidelis Soriwei, that Alaibe was blackmailing the Governor.
Alaibe said the success of the party and all the candidates — from chairmanship to the councillorship — is another proof that Bayelsa people have come to a common agreement that only the PDP-powered government can deliver satisfactorily on the dividends of democracy.
Prof Seiyefa Brisibe, the Administrative Secretary of the Campaign Organisation disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Bayelsa.
The former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Chief ‘Timi Alaibe, has congratulated the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, on his nomination for ministerial appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent screening by the Senate.
Alaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, also sympathised with the State Governor, Seriake Dickson, and the Government and people of Bayelsa State over the loss of the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs.
Alaibe made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja
Former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Timi Alaibe, has described as sad and undeserving the death of Seidougha Taribi, the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Mobilisation to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, and the Government House Photographer, Reginald Dei, both of whom were buried last weekend.
They were received into the PDP by the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson
In a letter of condolence, Alaibe said the unexpected news of the demise of Madam Dickson brought back the sad feelings he personally experienced over the death of his mother some years back
According to the Niger Delta leaders, the 16 points “quick wins can be achieved and can restore hope and confidence in a region that has grown skeptical of dialogue and engagements that have hardly produced tangible results”.
The Summit was scheduled for September 26 and 27 in Abuja
But the prominent Niger Deltas said inasmuch as the idea behind the Summit was good, it should not be without the input of the critical stakeholders who better understand the issues at stake
A source in the Presidency told THISDAY that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is very disturbed by the incessant attacks on oil installations in the region and its impact on the country’s finances, is mulling the advice of a senior security and intelligence chief, who has recommended that Alaibe be brought back to manage the amnesty office
Sylva polled 981 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Godknows Powell, who scored 39 votes
Alaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, announced the withdrawal of his candidacy in a statement on Wednesday
According to them, since the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission wants to reap from where he did not sow, he has become a liability to the APC in the state
