Frontline contestant for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in the next governorship election in Bayelsa State, Timi Alaibe, has been cleared by the party’s screening committee for the party’s primary scheduled for September 3, 2019.
Alaibe was handed his certificate of clearance by the committee Chairman and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
With this, Alaibe, who has promised to recreate Bayelsa State into a regenerative and sustainable economy that will thrive outside oil, will face about 20 other contestants on September 3 to battle for the PDP ticket in the November 16 governorship poll.
Meanwhile, the PDP leadership has enjoined all contestants to play by the rules and be prepared as members of one political family to support whoever emerges as PDP’s candidate at the end of the exercise for the real battle ahead.
Alaibe enters the contest with a wealth of private and public sectors experience.
A banker of note, he is a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, where he had earlier served as the pioneer Executive Director in charge of Finance and Administration.
He has also served as Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, where he established a template for the disarmament, demobilisation, rehabilitation and reintegration of militants.
He will make a formal declaration with the unveiling of his policy document on the Blue Economy on August 27.
